Lee Sandusky was born June 24, 1957 in Corning, New York. He grew up in
nearby Watkins Glen, New York.
He started singing
in grade school chorus and performed his first solo in December 1965 at
the age of eight. He also pursued the Alto Sax in school band, but being
“blind as a bat” he could never see the sheet music. A fellow
member of the sax section also played bass and was looking to switch to
guitar and start a rock band. It was a perfect situation for Dano! He
used the other guy’s bass and amp while he learned how to play.
One year after picking
up a bass for the first time, he had traded in his sax for a bass &
amp, becoming the bassist & vocalist for “Kontessa”. They
were all school kids just having fun. In 1974, Kontessa played its’
biggest show at the New York State Fair.
After Kontessa, Dano
put together the group “Tightfit” playing clubs throughout
New York & Pennsylvania. Then on Dano’s 20th birthday, Tightfit
played its’ last show. Dano retired.
His retirement lasted
about 5 years, when he found himself in Lexington, Ky. He started working
in several local country bands. Among them were: The Billy Wilson Band;
Kenny Whalen & The Travelers; and Borderline.
Dano worked as the
keyboardist for a studio band called “Wolfgrin” where he met
the drummer for the band….you guessed it, Chuck Ritchie.
After the Wolfgrin
project was done, Chuck called Dano saying he wanted to put a group together
and gave Dano his pick of instruments. After many auditions for other
members; the band you see here was born.
“I have been
blessed to be a part of a group of people that get along as well as we
do.”
